Vespers (All-Night Vigil), Op. 37 by Sergei Rachmaninoff

In March the Seattle Choral Company will transport listeners to the sumptuous world of Russian choral sonority. The rich, warm palate of Sergei Rachmaninoff's choral writing combined with the Seattle Choral Company's trademark ability to lift the text and music off the page and into your heart will make this an unforgettable musical experience.

Rachmaninoff's Vespers is a work of beauty and drama and is considered to represent the greatest height reached by music of the Russian Orthodox Church. The Vespers is an extended collection of fifteen a cappella hymns based on traditional Slavic chants, and will be sung in the late 17th century language of Russian orthodox liturgy, called Church Slavonic.
