His choral works have been performed locally by various groups. For example, in the Seattle Choral Company's seasonal concert in 2002 he expanded the orchestration of his work, Only the Heart Will Hear, to take advantage of the full orchestra used in that concert. Two of his instrumental works, a Violin and Piano sonata and a work for Clarinet and Piano, Habanera Variations, are to be premiered at a Sound Currents concert in October, 2003 (www.soundcurrents.org). A large double-chorus work, Echoes from the Heart, appears on The Esoterics' CD, Antiphona, and a four-movement work, Songs of the Equinox and Solstice, can be heard on their Elementia CD (www.theesoterics.org/recordings.htm). Do Not Weep, a commission by the Seattle Men's Chorus for men's chorus, Bass solo, Trombone and Piano appears on their Pink Album CD (http://www.seattlemenschorus.org/music.html); Earth Chants, also a commission by the Seattle Men's Chorus and performed in St. Mark's Cathedral as part of the theatre piece, Fool's Passion, was scored for men's voices, piano, organ, didgeridoo, percussion, and wine glasses. Works have also been premiered by The Bainbridge Chorale and the Northwest Chamber Chorus.
His composition,We Sing The Dream, was selected as the Festival Anthem prizewinner for the GALA V music festival in 1996, and was performed by 1,500 singers at the conclusion of the festival. Since 1996 Yelton Rhodes Music Publishing Company (www.yrmusic.com) has published his choral music, and choruses have performed those works around the United States and abroad. Currently Yelton Rhodes publishes 20 of his choral compositions. He studied music at the Jordon Conservatory of Music, Indianapolis, and at Indiana University, Bloomington, and is a member of ASCAP.
